Coalescence, made of clear glass beads strung onto steel wire, is inspired by looking at images of space and mass interacting. It alludes to chaotic and ethereal happenings at the quantum level. Natural change as a result of ambient light is an important element in this sculpture and is an important influence that can be experienced in many of Shotz’s other works, such as The Shape of Space or Mirror Fence.
