NIKKI S. LEE: IN PRODUCTION, features her most recent body of work, a tantalizing preview of the artist’s forthcoming documentary film, A/K/A NIKKI S. LEE. Presented in the form of sequenced still images displayed in light boxes, between fifteen and twenty works of various sizes will be on view.

Nikki S. Lee is a Korean artist, living and working in the United States, who is internationally known for photographic self-portraits that investigate issues of personal and social identity. The film, which is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2006, continues those explorations as it follows the artist’s activities of the past two years. We see her in Paris, creating photographs for The New York Times Magazine, and in New York, staging a traditional Jewish Wedding for a series commissioned by The Jewish Museum. She visits collectors in Venice, travels to Mexico City and Frankfurt for shows of her work, meets luminaries from the worlds of art and film, goes to elegant parties, visits her dealer at an art fair, and even has time to work in her studio.

The exhibition coincides with the release in the U.S. of the artist’s new monograph NIKKI S. LEE: PARTS published by Hatje Cantz and distributed by DAP. The book features an essay by RoseLee Goldberg, the renowned expert on performance art and creator of the recent, critically acclaimed Performa Biennial.
