In collages and constructions, Hampton explores societys relentless inner-struggle between the forces of brutality and the desire for transcendental beauty.

Hampton’s new work emphasizes the innate aggression prevalent in todays culturemotivated by materialism and dominated by a tradition of escapism. She explores the effects of a dominating consumer culture and technological advances in relation to issues of race, gender and class.

The complex forms that Hampton has assembled in her collages and headdress constructions unearth the mischievous and deviant facets of their exquisite aesthetic nature. Upon close examination, one discerns the paradoxical elements of which these forms are composedshreds of iconic beauty and power, embellished weaponry, elaborate motor parts, or diamond-studded jewelry shaped as guns and divine symbols. These striking figures entice and seduce the viewer at first, only to reveal later a more diabolical nature. While being pulled by numerous forcessensuality, malice, passion, dangerthe viewer is engaged in a journey of intricate contradictions captured from their own environment.
