While our society is becoming increasingly paperless, Taiwan-based artist Long-Bin Chen uses books, magazines, and phonebooks to create complex, beautifully detailed sculptures. They include Buddha heads, human faces, warriors and animals, which at first glance, resemble stone and marble. Chen has also created installations of life-scale hanging angels and human figures, as well as larger-than-life heads one can walk into, made up of approximately one thousand phone books.

For this exhibition, Chen will feature an installation in the project space of the gallery where he will create a “hurricane” made out of books and magazines, rising up from the head of the Buddha. This overload of information, literally swirling around the figure of the Buddha, represents this icon of the Buddhist world as the center of all communication.
