During gallery hours the 25 minute video tape by Jason Simon will be screened every half hour on the hour. On Sunday April 30th at 6pm the feature length video Threads of Belonging will be screened and followed by a discussion with the filmmaker, Jennifer Montgomery, conducted by Moyra Davey. And on Sunday May 7th at 7pm Ivan Navarro’s video Homeless Lamp, The Juice Sucker will be screened with a karaoke performance by Nutria, who will appear courtesy of Hueso Records. A discussion with Nicolás Guagnini will follow.

Vera is an assisted self-portrait. The subject is a woman whose passions and compulsions are of spending and loss, taste and subjectivity. The video is from 2003 and consists of a single interview on the subject of shopping, offering a reflective if driven voice for consumers of culture and commodities. The single evening events have been programmed in relation to Vera’s commentary on consumption and on the reflective, psychologizing language of Vera’s self-regard. Ivan Navarro’s works explore the consumption of energy in the cultural field, from the use of electricity to the economy of ideas that disseminate the works. Montgomery’s film is a tour de force dramatization of the anti-psychiatry movement within the history of therapeutic communities, in which the analytical dialogue makes language both the object and medium of recognition.
