Through a successful ebay bid in January of 2004, 1975 eteam Dollars turned into 10 Acres of personal US property. The lot, a generic square within the larger American grid of townships, is located in the desert of Nevada.
It is this 10-Acre lot and it’s surroundings that started the eteam’s search for solutions to problems, which were created by big systems that had made some small mistakes. They dealt with miscalculations of land surveyors, residues of the military, the lives of outcasts, the appearance of dead cows and the existence of a “public road”, that went right through the center of their lot.
The Terror of Space is an attempt to capture the frustration and absurdity of working with 10 acres in Nevada, by recontextualizing the space of vertexList gallery. The physical boundaries of the gallery are exposed and manipulated; pre-existing imperfections and functional architectural details of the building become starting points of a virtual grid. The installation consists of two video projections, floor alterations, black light and light tape.
We are still interested in digging a hole in the ground. It does not need to be large and we are flexible with the location, and we will create a grid on the walls and the floor. We tested the blacklight lamp and got satisfying results.
A live 8 bit music performance by Bubblyfish and Domer will begin at 9 pm.
