Mexican-born artist Alexis Portilla exhibits his latest works on paper, canvas and mylar in Volumes and Incidents. At times, he explores atmosphere and color, line and composition only. At other times, it is the symbol systems of marks that are blatantly more expressive and dense. Portilla further describes his work, “Either way, my goal is not to focus on one or the other for any particular work but to let the natural development of the piece describe the interplay between the two modes; form and atmosphere being one mode, line and shape being the other.”
