Known for his multidimensional installations about Latin American politics, Motta has been described by The New York Times as “part activist, part paranoid.” For A Brief History of US Interventions, he presents an enormous chalkboard, on which is handwritten a brief genealogy of 163 U.S. interventions throughout the world from 1801 until 2006. At the end of the mural is a shelf with chalk and erasers, inviting the viewer to rewrite this history or insert addendums, rationales, excuses, etc. The installation is designed to evolve over time, with an incalculable set of potential outcomes leading to the final version of history that survives at the end of the project.
