Green Canopy: the Bud, is an environmental sound installation by Ariadna Capasso, Damian Keller and Patricia Tinajero-Baker. Built entirely from recycled materials, including PVC-pipes, carpet padding, and crocheted plastic bags, the sculpture is the forest of the future. Green Canopy: The Tree is 10-feet high, 15-feet in diameter and finished in festive colors, a tongue-and-cheek reference to the Latin American “aesthetic”. The sound by eco-composer Damián Keller plays from four speakers inserted in the sculpture and is powered by solar panels. The original material for the music was collected in the Amazon jungle by Keller.
The 10-foot Green Canopy: The Tree is on view at the North Campus of Hamilton College in Clinton, NY as part of Sculpture Space INSIDE OUTSIDE through October. The exhibition showcases twelve Sculpture Space alumni who created artwork in the Utica studio between 1976 and 2005. The show is presented in two parts: individual works are installed on the North Campus, and an exhibition in the Emerson Gallery (June 2- September 10, 2006) documents the development of each piece with models and photographs.
