The exhibition Materiality includes an impressive variety of materials and techniques that inform the viewer in vastly different ways. The combination of consciously unique media draws interesting connections amongst the work. Aligned pieces of breakfast cereal become humorous and visually pleasing. Silk velvet pairs a long history of fabric makes and dyes with new context. Finely worked embroidery continues in the history of painstakingly intricate embellishment. Mylar reminisces of past and continuing creative endeavors in both science and art. The list continues, each informing the other and each adding to the dialogue about material well beyond singular use.
