the lights blink on and off, is an exhibition that will feature ten new large paintings by Iversen.
Iversen’s paintings contain intensely personal images ranging from portraits to still lifes and landscapes. Her imagery, often tinged with a reflective and dark mood, eschews photographic references to draw entirely from life and imagination.
Her paintings convey lusciousness and energy with the use of a brilliant palette and fluid, daring brushstrokes. The energy and richness of her brushwork, and her concern with the formal qualities of the painting, is such that often it can be appreciated as a pure painterly abstraction. With their varied surface, Iversen’s paintings show a direct pleasure in the act of painting itself as they reach a sensitive balance between figuration and abstraction.
