This collection of historically significant and heretofore unknown photographs by a forgotten master will be on view. O’Tower was active from the 1860s through the 1880s and worked alongside his better known contemporaries, Carleton Watkins, Timothy O’Sullivan, and Eadweard Muybridge. His iconic images of hallowed canyons, pristine waterways, and imposing rock formations were uncovered by Professor Terry Towery in the basement and attic of his family’s ancestral home in California, O’Tower’s last known residence.
Also on view is a group exhibition of contemporary landscape and environmental photography entitled (t)here. This diverse selection of color and monochromatic images includes work by Melissa Fleming, Michael Grimaldi, Jimmy & Dena Katz, Leah Oates, Alizabeth Towery, Terry Towery, Junsik Shin and Jason Wee and others.
