Daniel Blaufuks comes from a Polish/German family that immigrated to Portugal mid-century. This background relates to his childhood dream of becoming a “tourist” when asked what profession he wanted to choose as a grown-up. As an artist photographer now he reflects on being “in between spaces,” suggesting layered meanings and a nomadic sense, as much as always thinking of the next shot and the next place, rarely the last. Blaufuks’ images and videos of motel rooms recall the “film noir,” sometimes even scenes from films by Hitchcock, always suggesting mysteries and stories behind ‘simple’ images of a hotel key in its lock, a neon sign of the motel’s name, a view through a window…

As Daniel Blaufuks remarks: “Photographers and travelers are searchers, but they also know they will never find what they are searching for, an unreachable horizon that is always in front of the eyes, but never within reach”.
