Along the Lines is a group painting exhibition of new works by Terry Ekasala, Sal Messina, and Jennifer Perlmutter. Each artist strives to bring together nature and the abstract resulting in a balanced artistic vision.

Color intensity, contrast and abstract structures of nature, as well as inventing or imagining through the act of painting are all things that inspire Terry Ekasala’s paintings. She says, “To do my best to delve into the well of creativity and arrive instinctively at an image that satisfies me visually, emotionally, aesthetically and spiritually is an act as mysterious as nature and as fulfilling.”

Jennifer Perlmutter’s paintings are the result of an obsession with surface material and design, and are ultimately intended to captivate, to draw the viewer into a different world—a world where there’s more to find, contemplate and satisfy than what first meets the eye. Painting acrylic on top of canvases that are covered in gold leaf provides a brilliant ground for expressive work. Layers of sumptuous color, intriguing textures, guilding, abstraction and simplicity, are part of her elemental expression.

Sal Messina was born in West Islip, NY. Growing up in such close proximity to the ocean, the beach has been a source of inspiration for his art. After studying art for several years in Italy, and receiving a B.A. from Hofstra University, he moved to Manhattan and continued to study other art forms such as textile design, mosaic and glass blowing. All of these art forms have helped influence his style of painting. Much of Messina’s works have harmonious overtones in them with meticulous use of nuanced colors, proportion, and organic effects that strike a balance on many levels.
