at PLAY Roberley Bell’s newest body of work, introduces a new series of Flower Blob sculptures which take their cue from blob architecture. The irony of the blobs lies in the fact that they are in fact nothing in nature though the sculptures reveal themselves as natural forms. Jonathan Goodman wrote in his review in Sculpture Magazine of Bell’s previous show at Black & White Gallery, “Her point is well made – so much of the contemporary experience of nature is ersatz that it makes sense to build on an artificial world. One that comments on our desire for natural beauty even as it complicates our relation to that desire.” at Play suggests at play with nature, the playful and at times somewhat humorous twist on nature.
