Through color, shape and spatial conversations, bullets and stiletto heels, Margaret Evangeline and Stephanie Hightower present hybrid works that examine how absence and presence reveal each other. Margaret Evangeline paints emptiness with a charged palette of weapons from bullets shot through polished or pigmented stainless steel to Stella McCartney stilettos walked across foil-faced insulation board. Violent and serene, bursts of sound and silence, the holes break formal geometry, curving space and time in cosmological topographies. The absence of the gun and heels reveal an abstraction that changes context when the tool is known. The final result is that the surface has become ruptured with negative space that extends beyond the picture plane. The force of impact constructs through destruction to reveal perpetuity of absence that underlies all presence.
