Using a limited variety of materials, Wonjung Choi transforms the gallery space into an otherworld where two dinosaurs are walking out of the space. She draws the skeletal structure of the dinosaurs on transparent plastic sheets using black glue outlining the bones of the dinosaurs. Then she suspends the layers of plastic sheeting from the ceiling. The layers of two-dimensional sheets are successively displayed in the space and create a three-dimensional sculpture. The abstract image of the dinosaurs, which do not possess flesh, skin or color, allows the viewers to imagine creatures’ invisible bodies. Viewers also encounter another set of images, which are the shadows cast on the floor and walls by the line drawing made on the sheets. Manipulating light and shadow, she intentionally sets the dinosaurs slightly above the floor, as if they are floating, which creates an ephemeral and mysterious mood.
