Cutting, boiling, peeling, lacerating, Sara Klar radically applies process to create paintings that physically and emotionally nudge hidden fissures between memories, hopes and truthfulness.

In this series Totems and Traces, single, large scaled, organic forms thick and multilayered in some areas and bald with exposed primed canvas in others, emanate from atmospheric backgrounds. Cut away paint reveals excavated fragments of prior images created and buried for each new painting – ghost traceries of existences seen but not wholly present.
