Edge of Reality, is a group show of contemporary Indian artists. This show brings a dynamic group of young artists from India to New York City, some of who are exhibiting in the United Sates for the first time.
Participating artists: Sharmi Chowdhury, Amitabha Dhar, Maneesha Doshi, Mahula Ghosh, Arghya Priya Majumdar and Kamal Mitra
Figurative in nature Chowdhury’s paintings depict the complexities of human relationships that the artist presents from personal experiences. Multiple perspectives, reminiscent of miniature paintings and the use of theatrical backdrops add drama to the overall composition. While abstract in nature, Dhar’s work evoke the quality and sensitivity of Francis Bacon in ones mind. Doshi and Ghosh’s delicate and exquisite renderings in watercolor transcend the viewer into a dream world. Majumdar’s works are quizzical and have a niche of their own – stylistically his paintings have an expressive quality, which is quite unique. The dexterity with which Mitra handles his medium is remarkable. His compositions and palette have a dark undertone that lends a mysterious and tense quality to his paintings.
