Spilling across the gallery wall, cast glass water-droplets form trails of knotted black and white cord anchored by oversized rippling glass “buttons.” The result is a three dimensional choreographed drawing incorporating light and shadow. Adjacent are two framed boxes, which catch light to reveal layers of images. In other new work, black laminate and wood “shadows” strung between large cast glass buttons imply a human presence stripped of all but fastenings and shadows left by folds of fabric. The interplay with the physicality of shadow shapes has been a consistent theme in Shepley’s work as seen before in her light boxes, layered large scale “shades” with printed, carved, and cast black shadows, her translucent three-dimensional resin and lexan wall drawings, and most recently in cast glass life saving rings and windows which incorporate shadow images.
