Sang-Su Lee, No voice. . .really?

CPS Gallery
32 West 32nd Street, Fourth Floor, [email protected]
Midtown
December 15 - December 31, 2006
Reception: Friday, December 15, 6 - 9 PM

Through the intricate, painstaking removal of language from mass media sources such as newspapers and magazines, Lee asks us to hear the world’s true voice when the din of everyday chatter is removed.

Imagine holding a copy of the morning paper and watching as the words are stripped away, letter by letter. Soon, you are left holding a page, which seems to be empty, but is in fact more full than ever before. By removing the words, line-by-line, Lee attempts to remove human language altogether, so that a deeper, more soulful language can be heard. This language of the spirit, or possibly of the universe itself, is what Lee strives to expose to us.
