Prabhakar Kolte, one of the most prominent figure in the contemporary Indian art scene, was born in Bombay in 1946. Kolte’s color stratigraphy is simply amazing: it encourages the viewer to go beyond the painting surface, to explore the past that is always visible through the present. In short, the abstract layering in Kolte’s work captures the essence of time. Amitava, also one of the most well known Indian abstract painters, has exhibited extensively in India and abroad, and through the years his artworks have undergone a significant transformation. Amitava’s canvases are filled with textures and pigments that reverberate with Indian atmospheres and his rich and tactile fields of colors resemble Indian textiles. Born in 1970, Samit Das has shown extensively in India and abroad. The architecture that Samit Das creates in his works is layered like memory; line intersections symbolize our social crossroads and interconnections envisage issues of globalizations and sustainability. Samit Dey’s works have been featured in a number of successful solo and group exhibitions in India and abroad. Dey’s canvases are characterized by a strong sense of depth that entices the viewer to get lost in the geometry of the parts. Kausik Mukhopadhyay’s multidimensional installation recreates a complex and crowded urban environment dominated by mechanisms and engines. The dynamic power of his construction captures the viewer and engages him in a reflection on modern consumer culture. His works have been exhibited widely in India, Europe and the U.S.
