Since the 1980s, as a founding member of the Xiamen Dada group, Huang Yong Ping has used the avant-garde discourses associated with Western art history to rethink the symbols and objects of his native China. For this exhibition, Huang Yong Ping will create sculptural installations based on the structures of historical buildings, such as the Coliseum in Rome and the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Huang Yong Ping’s work was recently the subject of an acclaimed exhibition organized by the Walker Art Center and currently on view at Mass MoCA.
