Power One, is one of the first in a series of curatorial experiments exploring how collaboration in new media and performance produce works that engage the viewer with a more visceral, visual experience. Power One consists of several live performed sound and video/film pieces produced by WHAMCITY, Black Centipede Against Riiko Sakkinen, and the Orbis Tertius Ensemble. In using sound, video and performance, these works place the viewer in a hyper-sensory environment. Staging them in a live setting makes the execution susceptible to a myriad of unpredictable circumstances. Such is the goal of Power One—to leave the viewer teetering between a total inoculation of the senses and anticipating what will happen next.
Working in Maryland, New York and Spain, each project’s source material is as varied as the places they are based. While some reference elements of “new psychedelia,” others are informed by elements of minimalist art, heavy metal, jazz, Dada, contemporary dance, and classical composition.
Each project will perform the live sound and video pieces only once throughout the course of the show. The video and sound will be archived and made available for the public via the Power Series website.
Throughout the entire course of the show, viewers may experience a permanent installation related to each performance piece.
