Japan Inc. includes artists who turn to Japanese culture for inspiration. Some of the artists were born and raised in Japan and some were not. Many of the artists have lived or studied in Japan, others glean their Japanese influence from the media alone. Artist references to Japan range from masked to overt.

Iona Rozeal Brown uses traditional Japanese iconography in her paintings to explore the creativity of urban youth culture. Sydney Chastain-Chapman identifies with the opulent creativity of Japanese girls in eighties punk infused fashion. Gajin Fujita utilizes a team of Japanese American friends and family to inspire his graffiti layered homage to Japanese American culture. Andrea Lehmann subtly references her years as a student in Japan in her mysterious paintings. Aaron Romine describes the youthful Japanese fascination in Paris at the haute couture fashion shows in the basement of the Louvre. Aya Uekawa leans towards a style of painting reminiscent of medieval portraiture with a hint of Japanese infused pop culture. The exchange of culture is a convoluted twisting back and forth of ideas, images and styles in Japan Inc.
