Principles of Social Topology features all new works based on the single surfaces of the Möebius strip, the Gordian knot, and in three dimensions, Klein’s bottle. Reyes’ works elicit reversible meanings, particularly evident in his new language-based sculptures. When read from one side, one word appears; from the reverse side, a completely different word is found.
Reyes’ work addresses the boundaries of physical and social spaces, illuminating the connection between the body and its immediate environment. His expanded notion of sculpture examines the often diametrically opposed tensions of modern life, from the human sentiments of love and hate, to the symbiotic relationship of language and geometry.
