Blowup, an exhibition showcasing the photographic versatility of point-and-shoot cameras. Stay Gold has sent out an international call for photographic images from assorted types of cameras, including the Holga 120 series and the Lomo LC-A, Fisheye, Colorsplash, and Oktomat.
Enthusiasts of the Holga and the Lomo celebrate precisely those characteristics that would be considered defects in other cameras: blurriness, light leaks, and “vignetting” (excess shadowing and framing effects). The in expense of the materials has made these cameras accessible as well, for their affordability and lightweight ness.
Point-and-shoot photography relies on the spontaneity and creativity of the shooter. Through this exhibition, we hope to show that the appeal of point-and-shoot photography stems both from its non-necessity of professional use and its ability to capture life without the pre-meditation and scrutinization of formal photography.
