The Collection of Impossible Subjects: An eight foot by twelve foot rear-illuminated mirrored wall hand-engraved to show a salon style installation of elaborate empty frames. One frame is cut out to provide a view of the room beyond; the interiors of the other frames have been sanded out. The paneling of the wall is identical to the actual paneling of the gallery.
Invisible Self-Portraits: A selection from an on-going series of self-portraits in oils in second hand frames based on photographs of the artist taken in a mirror where the artist is regrettably obscured by the flash.
Endlessly Breaking Mirror: A 20-minute video of a mirror that endlessly shatters and reconstitutes itself projected onto sanded plexi-glas. The video is a composite of sixteen videos of rear-illuminated mirrors being engraved from behind to create a glowing composite drawing of a ruined museum entrance hall. Each video was made in a single take by placing the camera on a photograph facing a mirror and then recording the engraving; the mirror was shattered upon the engraving’s completion. In the final video, the engraving is compressed from an hour into five minutes and the shattering is slowed down so that it too takes five minutes to complete. The video runs forwards and backwards.
Upcoming rooms include endlessly postponed projects, ideas that were just too expensive, embarrassingly confessional art and inadvertently derivative work.
