Arthur “Chris” Georgalas and Peter Ketchum are Brooklyn artists carrying on in the fine tradition of Popism! Peter’s work caught me by surprise. Peter has a distinguished look about him, you might expect him to paint classic landscapes or regal still lifes of flower arrangements and bowls for fruit…NAW!!!! His work is a contemporary weave of pop culture imagery, humor and smart social commentary. Amazing stuff! Chris, or Arthur…he answers to both, caught my attention thru some work he had hanging in a cafe in Williamsburg. His work in a word is…FUN. He has a blast making his pieces…and it shows! Like Peter he does 3d and 2d work. Some early Rauschenberg influence to be sure. Ed Rosko works with old pop and advertising images text and texture. Mostly silkscreen on wooden platforms …some even light up! Think Henry Darger meets Joseph Cornell meets Vargus.
