Expressionist brutality and raw emotion manifest themselves in the work of Reuben Kadish (1913-1992), an Abstract Expressionist sculptor active in the New York School.
The three bronze works from the 1980’s, dramatically installed in the sculpture garden, reflect in part the artist’s experiences during World War II and his long life as a humanist and teacher. The series imparts Kadish’s reflections on the Holocaust as well as the horrific bombing of Hiroshima.
The sculptures also mirror his own feelings about departed artist friends and his own mortality.
