Sublime Convergence: Gothic to the Abstract, places important paintings and sculpture dating from 1230 to 1407, by such great artists as Andrea di Bartolo, Taddeo di Bartolo, Bernardo Daddi, Taddeo Gaddi, Bicci di Lorenzo, Lorenzo Monaco, and Paolo Veneziano, alongside such post-World War II American masters as William Baziotes, Morris Graves, Brice Marden, Agnes Martin, Barnett Newman, Ad Reinhardt, Mark Rothko, Robert Ryman and Mark Tobey.
The exhibition intends to show that the works of all these artists, spanning almost 800 years, share a spiritual quality; that they hang comfortably together; and that the early works are relevant to a contemporary public.
