Featuring nineteen artists who work in diverse media – paintings, drawings, sculptures, video, sound pieces, and site-specific installations will be on view – the exhibition marks the culmination of a two-year engagement with the Fine Arts program, the city, and each other, and heralds the promising start of nineteen individually forged artistic careers.
The exhibition is organized by Brian Sholis, a writer and Artforum.com Managing Editor at Artforum, who notes, “In visiting classes and spending time in studios, I’ve come to appreciate how a collection of individuals becomes a graduating class. It’s not a sense of coherence – the disparity of the works on view in this exhibition betrays that – but rather of contours. There is a shape to their interaction with the world, manifested here in an emphasis on material. There are no artists in this group who treat their studio as an office; even the most Conceptual practices are grounded in the realm of the tangible.”
