New works by John Chamberlain, Chuck Close, Richard Prince, David Salle, Cindy Sherman, Robert Wilson to be exhibited prior to “Art for Opera” auction
A public exhibition of original artwork inspired by opera and created by contemporary artists John Chamberlain, Chuck Close, George Condo, Barnaby Furnas, William Kentridge, Guillermo Kuitca, Richard Prince, David Salle, Cindy Sherman, Sophie von Hellermann, William Wegman and Robert Wilson will preview to the press on Thursday, April 26 from 1 PM to 2:30 PM at the Arnold and Marie Schwartz Gallery Met at the Metropolitan Opera, Lincoln Center, 65th Street and Broadway.
Curator Dodie Kazanjian and General Manager Peter Gelb will be available to discuss the exhibit.
Among the new works to be unveiled will be: Robert Wilson’s VOOM Portrait of soprano RenĂ©e Fleming; Richard Prince’s acrylic and collage painting inpired by Madama Butterfly; George Condo’s oil painting inspired by Don Giovanni; and William Kentridge’s ink-on-paper of Papageno (the bird catcher from Mozart’s The Magic Flute).
