Béatrice Cussol’s work is about a parallel universe, a place where images are always invented and added to each other. By allowing all images that come to her to take part, the artist creates a complete freedom of thought. A world on paper full of women, one in which no barriers or censorship exist, a world full of redefinitions and promises.

The characters in Cussol’s drawings have chosen their own sex and enjoy an ideal and dreamed freedom. Autonomous and self-absorbed, they fill and fulfill her world, communicating through penetration and body mixture. Their chosen sexuality is undoubtedly feminist, but in the world of drawing, gender like any other part of the body, represents a link to communication.

The artist’s drawings, watercolors or murals use their white backgrounds as a space that enables the figures to move and scenes to occur in the sudden coalescence of fluid color zones and lines. Cussol reconstructs bodies perceived from the inside or seen from their delineation, making the beholder the subject of their visions, not just of the artist’s fantasies.

In a truly fascinating approach, Béatrice Cussol’s compositions are sufficiently undetermined to produce narration through association or analogy, without any pre-established or stereotypical meaning.
