Point of View Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition and the book “Madame Frankie Stein” by Peruvian artist Cecilia Jurado. Jurado referred to Doctor Frankenstein and his creature to produce a story about a female scientist seeking to understand the similarities between the disintigration of beauty and the end of life.
Madame Frankie Stein is a collector and researcher of beautiful insects. She discovers their ability to produce a potion to make the beauty of women timeless. In this story, the doctor becomes her own creation. Frankie becomes forever beautiful.
Jurado´s “Madame Frankie Stein” deals with life, beauty, death and desire. Like a fairytale, this project has magic, tragedy and irony. The author exchanges texts and images thus creating an absurd and humorous tale built around Frankie´s discoveries. Terror visits beauty. And love changes plans.
The installation in the gallery will exhibit baroquely framed, Dorian Gray-esque portraits of Frankie, played by Basia Plewinska, small pictures of the insects, and an audiovisual presentation of the book, published by Onestar Press – Paris, as well as other elements related to the story.
