Margaret Murphy and The Garage are proud to present the first solo exhibition at The Garage featuring the works of artist Michelle Vitale Loughlin. In keeping with the raw nature of The Garage Ms. Loughlin created “Storage” a site specific installation on the garage door using found materials, patterns and surfaces. The exhibition continues inside with new sculpture and installation works that interact with the architecture of the space in surprising ways. Using yarn as a medium Loughlin’s work subverts the use of a knitting machine, traditionally used to create functional objects, to create non functional forms. In doing so she blurs the boundaries of the medium and interacts with viewer’s perceptions.
Since 2004, Ms. Loughlin has constructed large scale installations for both national and international institutions, including the Jersey City Museum, NJ, Casaterra Artist Residency Program, Puligia, Italy and the Hogar Collection, New York.
