Controversial graphic artist and fashion purveyor Ju$t Another Rich Kid teams up with Britain’s most in-demand young artist, Stuart Semple, to co-curate The Black Market, an installation of art, fashion and design at Anna Kustera. The gallery will be transformed into a pop-up shop, separated into a clean, upbeat sales floor with a tawdry, “anything-goes” back “stock” room. In addition to Ju$t Another Rich Kid and Semple, participating artists will include: renegade designer Mattia Biagi; digital artist Carlo Zanni; artist/designer Cory Ingram; UK artist Craig Wilson; and video artist Adham Faramawy. Accompanying the exhibition will be a custom-made soundtrack by London Nu Ravers, Warboy and K-tron of All You Can Eat, as well as the launch of The Playground, an unbound collection of fashion and art produced in exclusive numbered limited editions.

Ju$t Another Rich Kid’s and Stuart Semple’s The Black Market evokes the desire of illicit consumerism with the intention of highlighting the comodification of artists and designers. The show is meant to underscore the disparity between the utopian ideal of “designed” perfection and the realities of everyday existence.

New York-based artist and designer Ken Courtney is the founder of the independent fashion label Ju$t Another Rich Kid. Earlier this year, after debuting his gold coffee-stirrer/coke-spoon object based on the design of 1970s fast food cutlery, Ju$t Another Rich Kid was slapped with a “cease and desist” injunction by the McDonalds Corporation.

At the age of 25, Semple has already carved out a space in the art world. Enthusing about Semple’s work, London’s White Cube gallery director Jay Jopling says, “The images…are extremely confident and very dynamic.” Celebrity collectors have lined up behind him, among them such fans as Sienna Miller, Boy George and Debbie Harry.
