The eight large and colorful paintings in Fresh Paint are made with both oil and acrylic paint adorned with glitter, confetti, and other decorative ornaments. The Enchanted Garden, the largest of the canvases, is the centerpiece of the show. Measuring 7.5×27 feet (228.6×822.96 cm), it astonishes the spectator with a combination of scale, rich textures, and vibrant colors.

Using materials more common in creating decorative crafts, Martinez captures the distinctive celebratory elements of the Caribbean region where he lives; evoking a sense of joy, festivity and pleasure in those who view the paintings.

Melvin Martinez was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1976; and studied art at San Juan Arts School (Puerto Rico), where he received a BFA in 2005. He continues to live and work in San Juan. This young and prolific artist, winner of 2005 Castellon Paint Price (Spain), has shown his works in many of the must prestigious museums of Spain and is part of many important collections of United States, Europe and Latin America. Martinez’s works have been exhibited at Espai D’Art Contemporani, Duesseldorf Quadrinale, Yvon Lambert (“Tribute to Cezanne”) and Alcorcon’s Art Center.
