On Thursday, June 21, from 6pm to 8pm, the Housing Works Bookstore Café will host a reception for its new art exhibition, “Positive Art for Positive Women.” The exhibition, which runs from June 21 to June 24, is one of several events celebrating the opening later this month of Housing Works’ new Women’s Health Center, located at 57 Willoughby Street in downtown Brooklyn.

Computers will be available at the reception so that attendees can bid on the artwork in an online auction. Any member of the public can participate in the auction from 6pm EST, June 21, through 7pm EST, June 24, at www.housingworksauctions.com. All proceeds will be donated to the Women’s Health Center.

The exhibition includes more than 50 works donated by visual artists, collectors, and Housing Works supporters, as well as women living with HIV, many of whom created art around the theme of HIV and healing. 100 more works will be available online.

The 11,000-square-foot Women’s Health Center is the only facility in New York State offering a comprehensive array of services tailored to the needs of women living with HIV/AIDS. It provides primary medical care, dental care, mental health services, substance abuse counseling, HIV/AIDS support groups, child care, fitness facilities, art therapy, and numerous other services.

HOUSING WORKS, the nation’s largest grassroots AIDS organization, is dedicated to fighting the twin crises of HIV/AIDS and homelessness. We provide supportive housing, medical care, job training, case management, HIV prevention education, counseling and other services to low-income and homeless New Yorkers.
