Julie Peppito combines gooey and sparkling baubles with insects, twigs, and tattered debris into narrative sculptures and drawings. The detailed embroidery and line work in each piece keeps you searching to find more connections between the found objects and images she chooses. By merging contrasting materials and carefully decorating bits of trash, nature and collectables Peppito questions the human relationship to our planet…is it symbiotic or parasitic? Why do we value what we value and at what point does a cherished object or fashion become trash?
This exhibition at Heskin Contemporary is Julie Peppito’s first solo show in New York City. Ms. Peppito received her BFA at the Cooper Union School of art in New York City, and received her MFA from Alfred University in Alfred, New York. She also attended the Academie Minerva in the Netherlands and has been the recipient of the Andy Warhol Foundation Grant, a NYFA Fellowship in sculpture and the Artpark, stipend/residency in Lewiston, New York.
There will be a catalog adjoining the exhibition.
