In celebration of Canada Day (July 1), 511 GALLERY will host the inaugural exhibition of Parca, which features the work of eight Canadian artists, hailing from British Columbia to Quebec.

“We are delighted to be the venue for this important exhibition of contemporary Canadian art. The culture and national traditions of Canada offer a unique perspective within the context of North American art”, said Gallery Director, Mara Miller.

The exhibition includes the ‘plein air’ energy-flow paintings of BC artist, Jeremy Down; the clay organisms of Ken Gangbar; gestural, intuitive, multi-layered abstractions of Margaret Glew; instructional photography and object pairings of Vancouver-based artist, Chloe Lewis; the text-message mandalas of painter, Sarah Merry; the abstracted urban landscapes of Canadian-Israeli painter, Gideon Tomaschoff; the stark humanism of Montreal photographer, Élène Tremblay and the lavish dreamscapes of painter Jennifer Wardle. Collectively, Parca artists have shown around the globe in such cities as Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, San Francisco, Birmingham, New York, London, Bogotá and Budapest.

Curator, Sarah Merry created Parca to expand the audience of contemporary Canadian art. “I think this exhibition is a great opportunity for these artists to broaden their impact on the world as their work is reflective of the life and culture of Canada,” said Merry.

“The Consulate General of Canada, New York, is proud to welcome curator Sarah Merry and the Canadian artists of Parca to New York City,” said Dan Sullivan, Canada’s Consul General to New York. “We are pleased that the Consulate’s introduction of Ms. Merry to the team at 511 GALLERY has been so fruitful and has led to this terrific showcase opportunity for so many worthy Canadian visual artists!”
