curated by J Penry Jeff Jensen, J Penry, Megan Pflug, and WOWCH
This collaboration is inspired by the shadowy underbelly of “hippie” and “post hippie” culture and idealism – messiah figures, death cults, rock star worship, and any other cultural phenomena from the 60’s-70’s – that preyed on the feeble minded. Each artist produces a different take on these subjects through historical viewpoint or through the process of creating his or her work.
J. Penry wasn’t raised by humor-less counter culture windbags, perhaps that is why he creates art that pokes fun at everything. For this show, he will create the largest painting he has ever done.
Megan Pflug makes intricate large format prints and paintings dealing with god knows what. She was born on Mormon holy ground, their version of the Garden of Eden. She plans on returning there upon her death.
WOWCH spend a lot of time eating pizza and watching out of print VHS tapes. They have a very successful t-shirt business despite this. They have had a few explorations in the world of fine art. This means they might put something in a frame for this show.
Jeff Jensen is sort of like a modern day P.T. Barnum, if P.T. Barnum created entertainment for the record collecting set and took his shirt off a lot. Jeff has been quoted as saying that he is putting this show on the “mid-burner”. Expect something to offend and confuse.
