Midtown
July 15 - September 30, 2007
Reception: Thursday, July 19, 6 - 9 PM
We are pleased to announce a solo exhibition, on view as of today, of the abstract paintings of Mark Wiener at the Roger Smith Hotel, 501 Lexington Avenue in Manhattan, through September., and his upcoming live presentation “Inside-Out” at the Lab at 47th Street & Lexington Avenue, July 15th – 20th.
Curated by Matthew Semler, “Gestures: A Timeline” presents a progression of recent work: from 2004, when citing as influences the urban landscapes of Reginald Marsh, Wiener began to explore gesture as the subjects of his narrative abstraction; through present works where his gesture serves as the foundation for reflection upon the textural landscape and its layers that subliminally capture his imagination every day.
There will be a reception for the artist on Thursday, July 19th from 6-9 PM at The Lab, in conjunction with the climax of “Inside-Out.” “I will bring the layers and dimensions built into my single-surface works out to play on the walls, floors, and windows of the Lab, for an experience of seeing from a fresh perspective,” said the artist, who will use the Lab’s street level space as a studio to work in full view of the public for 6 days.
