AnnaKustera is pleased to present four new, large-scale works by Eric Hibit in his solo debut exhibition. In this body of work, the artist creates abstract paintings that become “expanded” through his process of collage using three-dimensional materials. Hibit includes a wide range of unconventional materials not expected to be found in a painting; shoes, sawhorses, and stuffed animals. He integrates these objects into a highly personal painting language of gesture and obsessive pattern making. With a sense of emotional urgency, exuberance and visual hunger, the artist “wings” the process, allowing spontaneity to direct the evolution of each work’s own unique conclusion. The resulting objects reflect a view into a very personal creative process, a desire of the experiential rather than intellectual, and the invention of an unusual and compelling visual realm.
Eric Hibit is a MFA graduate of Yale University’s Painting Department (2003) and has participated in several group exhibitions including “Tact-Traction” at Anna Kustera last fall and ‘Toxic’ at the Max Protetch Gallery in 2003. Hibit lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
