Roebling Hall is pleased to announce the inaugural exhibitions of the 2007/08 season; Form/Faith by Christoph Morlinghaus and Nothing But Heavy Duty by David Ersser, two exhibitions exploring the use of space as constructed locations, as means of philosophical or spiritual experience.

In the main gallery, Roebling Hall presents Christoph Morlinghaus. In his second gallery exhibition of photographs, Form/Faith, Morlinghaus continues his thorough research of meaning in architecture. Building on his past explorations of notable and notorious icons such as the TWA Terminal and the I.G. Farben Building

While photographing Eero Saarinen’s TWA terminal just after it’s closing in 2002, and admiring the forms’ graceful interplay of light and concrete, effortlessly transposing light into sweeping realms of infinite space, Morlinghaus became interested in the spiritual emotion of the building and pursues the idea of meaning in architecture. Further investigation revealed that Saarinen and numerous other modernist architects had been put to the task of defining spiritual spaces: Churches and Temples.

The architects’ achievements are notable, and Morlinghaus has traveled extensively to record their efforts to demonstrate the spiritual. The sublime structures are in turn further abstracted and captured in their essence by Morlinghaus’ meticulous attentiveness to the “God is in the Details” core of his practice. These works are clear and anti-cynical in their intention; to view the reiterations and attempts to express faith as a sense of place and that place us in proportion, and render the majesty of existence sensible.
