In Hung Out To Dry, Kelie Bowman’s new paintings address the struggle to keep stability in one’s life by way of the community. Displaced and homeless, slumpy women create a sanctuary with nature by taking their belongings up into the trees where they hang off of branches with their laundry- both seemingly airing out to dry. The trees become grounded safe havens, sometimes acting as scarecrows by wearing the womens’ dresses while they hide behind them in uncertainty.
