hereth i float around, collect grime, pull worms out of the earth when i whisper by, i call you, as the demon in me gets stuck in the mouths of gooey lipstick with brown lip pencil, twist in strands of hay to form a web to capture the roaches of our streets, our homes. our avenues pointin’ arrows… our filthy humble planet taking all the noise. the plague of our breath…..the bird’s loins land on my tongue—-i’m spitting blood, entertainment, colors, balloons as my veins tar them together, batter them in oil, cook em’ for protein when I’m hungry then i spit em out…a growl comes out. a roar so loud it shatters the glass on the pavement the buildings crackle a sinister smile high fivin when i realize…..... i’m alive again. -Lizzi Bougatsos 07’

James Fuentes LLC is pleased to announce Lizzi Bougatsos’ solo exhibition Street Feather. Recently on a quiet afternoon, Lizzi Bougatsos was walking down Avenue C when she noticed a birdhouse perched on the side of a building that, judging by its materials, was likely constructed by a homeless person. Bougatsos saw this as an intensely humane gesture. Later she returned to the site to study and document the birdhouse, after which she commenced replicating it in human scale. The resultant sculpture will be the centerpiece for her exhibition. Bougatsos’ exhibition embraces proximity as a narrative device. In addition to the birdhouse there will be assemblages culled from the neighborhood of the gallery that give a semblance of bringing a dreamlike version of the streets indoors.

Street Feather is one of several exhibitions within the first year at James Fuentes LLC that have, and will, participate actively with the environments surrounding the gallery. Lizzi Bougatsos’ practice is multi-faceted—it includes and incorporates writing, performance, sculpture, collage and installation. She has recently presented her work in group exhibitions at; MACRO Rome , Kunst Werke Berlin, Swiss Institute NY, Kunsthalle St. Gallen, ICA Philadelphia and P.S.1 NY. And has presented solo exhibitions at Reena Spaulings Fine Art (2005), American Fine Arts Co. (2000) and James Fuentes Gallery (1999). Additionally Bougatsos tours extensively with her two band projects Gang Gang Dance and I.U.D..
