MCCAIG-WELLES is pleased to present an exhibition of artworks of a group of artists from Detroit, New York and Santiago, Chile.
Curator and artist Dana Bell writes the following about the basis of this unique exhibit:
“These are my friend’s pieces, which I love because I love them. The name of the show is Collide because it happened very fast, filling in a space at the gallery for a show that was cancelled.
I asked many friends to participate as soon as I heard of the opportunity and think the meeting of everyone’s work will create a kaleidoscopic range of references and stories.
From Santiago, Chile, Yael Rosenblut’s DVD shorts often makes videos out of classical paintings, NYC’s David Aron makes creatures that don’t always have recognizable features, Detroiter Matthew Blake’s diorama’s bring toy figures into anarchic architecture, and Kelly Nicholson’s layered drawings bring linear thought lines into synthesized still lives.
Many of the artists met each other through the underground music scene, and many are also practicing musicians. This connection leads to the cacophonous meeting of varied, yet connected artworks existing in either frighteningly loud or extremely quiet scenarios expressed through visual examples of what might otherwise be screeching guitar feedback, or peaceful drum rhythms.”
