HQ is pleased to present an installation by Devin Powers titled 4 Space. The environmental installations that Powers produces are clear developments out of geometric abstraction and drawing practice in general. At HQ Powers will be challenging the gallery itself by creating a secondary space using conventions of architectural perspective.
As an artist Devin Powers is primarily concerned with the possibilities suggested by relational geometry. Each one of the artist’s projects is a renewed approach to the problem of generating graphic complexity out of a purely symmetrical system of organization. As Powers would explain it; “I want to obliterate the difference between order and chaos in an image”.
The installation 4 Space works within the physical boundaries of the HQ gallery, but breaks with gallery convention by presenting the image on an implied space that is parallel to the gallery but not within the square footage of the space itself. The realization of Power’s work is a synthesis between the possibilities inherent in image, wall, space and line.
