An exhibition repositioning the boundaries of art materials… Turning conventional usage upside down, inside out & onto something new.
Gallery One: Detritus Forest an installation by Devrim Kadirbeyoglu A requiem created from/for what has already lived: Evergreens that have grown old enough to be adored, go out of fashion, die and be disposed of. A luscious (yet dead) inverted forest of discarded Christmas trees swings softly- a poetic symbol of consumption.
Gallery Two: Devil’s Triangle Reprise an installation by Scott Kiernan curated by Jennifer Junkermeier A standard musical score is composed from mapping out flight patterns between US airline hubs. A new take on audio access to information, raw data is translated into sound. The instrument (a harp), its recorded melody and video translate into a new form of communicating facts.
Gallery Three: Hybrids an installation by Guy Rozenstrich curated by Jennifer Junkermeier Art made with resuscitated/used acrylic blurs the seperating between painting and sculpture. Paint – a commonly used material with traditional practice – is ripped off canvas and finds its own form, exposing the classical dilemmia in defining something by what it is composed of.
